engageSPARK helped Johns Hopkins University run public health surveys in Colombia using IVR and SMS. The project tested different airtime incentives to boost survey completion. JHU used random digit ...dialing to reach a wide sample and aimed for 10,000 to 15,000 completed surveys. The surveys collected health data from adults using mobile phones. Results were comparable to similar surveys in other countries, but full analysis is pending.

The program used weekly 4-5 minute pre-recorded voice calls over five and a h...alf months. Nearly 70,000 calls were made. On average, 79% of participants completed each training call. Only 14% disconnected in the first minute. The training improved business practices and record keeping for participants.
engageSPARK's SMS and Voice IVR platform helped IOM Ghana run a migration awareness survey. IOM used IVR calls and SMS to reach people, offering airtime incentives for survey completion. In 4 days wi...th incentives, 10,387 people completed the survey, with an 85% completion rate. Without incentives, 1,888 people completed the survey in 2 days, with an 84% completion rate. The project showed incentives boost participation, but strong results are possible without them if outreach is direct.

Among surveyed recipients, use of savings accounts increased by 106%. Mercy Corps launched a second soap opera due to the campaign's success.

The team faced low literacy, limited... tech exposure, and cultural barriers. 156 women-child pairs joined the study, with 74% completing the IVR survey. The average call lasted 23 minutes and covered 71 questions. The 3-month project cost $1,491, making each completed survey $12.85. The IVR solution enabled reliable, remote data collection in hard-to-reach areas.
